๐Ÿฝ KEY INGREDIENTS

Ingredients for Christmas Oreo presents on a marble countertop.

Oreo cookies – I’ve used regular Oreo cookies and red velvet Oreo cookies. The red velvet cookies should be readily available during the holiday season.

Cream cheese – Softened to room temperature for easy mixing, divided in half.

Candy melts – Red, green, and white candy melts, divided.

White sparkly sanding sugar – While this is optional, it certainly adds extra flare to these treats. This is optional.

Swaps

Sanding sugar – Sprinkles can be used instead.

Gluten-free Oreos – Regular Oreos are not gluten-free but the brand does sell gluten-free Oreos that could be used in this recipe.

๐Ÿฅฃ EQUIPMENT

You’ll need a food processor or high-speed blender, mixing bowls, a hand mixer, baking tray, a piping bag, a candy melt melting pot, a double boiler or microwave, and silicone mini bow molds.

๐Ÿ”ช HOW TO MAKE

While there may be a few extra steps to take when making these edible Christmas presents, if you follow my easy step-by-step instructions and helpful cooking tips, you can’t go wrong!

Preparations

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside while preparing the Oreo mixture.

Cooking Instructions

Step 1
Blend the regular Oreos and red velvet Oreos separately. Combine these separate mixtures with cream cheese and then shape them into little cubes, using a cookie scoop to accurately measure them. Place the cubes on the tray and chill in the fridge for 2 hours.

Step 2
While the Oreo cubes chill, make the bows by placing melted candy melts of each color into the silicone molds. Place the molds in the fridge until set.

Step 3
Use a double boiler to melt each color of the candy melts. Dip an Oreo cube into the melted chocolate with a fork and gently tap it against the side of the pot to remove excess chocolate.

Place the cube on the baking tray and continue this process for all the cubes, cleaning the pot between the different colors of candy melts. Immediately sprinkle sanding sugar over the freshly coated cubes before they dry.

Step 4
Place the reserved candy melts in the microwave to melt. Fill a piping bag for each color.

Step 5
Snip the end corner of each piping bag and start to drizzle a cross over each cube. Immediately top each Oreo present with a mini bow. Allow the Oreo Christmas presents to dry before serving!

๐Ÿ’ญ COOKING TIPS

Chilling the Christmas Oreo presents will help keep the cubes firm so that they hold their shape better and donโ€™t fall apart when dipped into the melted candy melts.

Keep the assembled Oreo presents refrigerated until youโ€™re ready to serve them. If the balls sit at room temperature for an extended period of time, the chocolate coating will start to crack.

This recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled, great for serving a larger crowd at your holiday parties and events!

If you use double-stuffed Oreos, reduce the amount of cream cheese. If you don’t, these Oreo presents will be too wet and crack.

๐Ÿ™‹ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I HAVE TO CHILL THE OREO PRESENTS BEFORE BEFORE COATING THEM?

Yes! The shaped Oreo presents must be chilled for them to retain their shape. If you don’t, they will become misshapen when you start to coat them with the melted candy melts.

HOW DO I CREATE UNIFORM OREO PRESENTS?

I’ve used a cookie scoop to measure equal amounts of the cream cheese and crushed Oreo mixture. If you don’t have a cookie scoop, use a spoon. Uniform-sized Oreo presents will chill for the same length of time and will also create a better presentation.

CAN I MAKE THESE WITHOUT A FOOD PROCESSOR?

Yes, you can. You can crush the Oreos in a Ziploc bag using a rolling pin. Combine the crushed Oreos with the softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl with a spatula or mixing spoon. Mixing by hand will be harder than using a food processor, but it’s manageable.

๐ŸงŠ STORING AND โ™จ๏ธ REHEATING

FRIDGE

Store leftover Christmas Oreo presents in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. I prefer to line the bottom of the container with parchment paper to prevent the Oreo presents from sticking.

You should also add a layer of wax or parchment paper between stacked Oreo presents in storage.

FREEZER

These Oreo Christmas Present Truffles should last for 1-2 months in the freezer, although there could be some discoloration in the candy melt coating. Freeze the Oreo presents on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet for 1-2 hours so that they harden, and then transfer them to an airtight container or a Ziploc bag.

Christmas Present Oreo Truffles

Christmas Present Oreo Truffles

This fun Christmas Oreo presents recipe combines cream cheese and two different flavors of Oreo cookies. They're coated in melted candy melts and decorated with edible ribbons and sanding sugar!

Prep Time 1 hour
Additional Time 2 hours
Total Time 3 hours

Ingredients

  • 22 regular Oreo cookies
  • 22 red velvet Oreo cookies
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened to room temperature, divided in half
  • 10 ounce red candy melts, divided
  • 10 ounce dark green candy melts, divided
  • 10 ounce white candy melts, divided
  • White sparkly sanding sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking tray with parchment and set it aside. Blend the regular Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or blender. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  2. In the same food processor, blend the red velvet Oreo cookies into fine crumbs and set aside.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl with a hand mixer on medium-high speed, beat one HALF of the softened cream cheese until creamy and smooth.
  4. Add the regular Oreo crumbs to the bowl and mix together with the hand mixer until well combined. Clean the beaters before moving onto the next flavor.
  5. In a separate mixing bowl, beat the other HALF of the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the red velvet Oreo crumbs to the bowl and beat together until well combined.
  6. Use a 1.5” cookie scoop to make even sized scoops and then mold it into a cube using your hands. Place onto the prepared baking tray and refrigerate for 2 hours. Chilling the truffles will help them to keep their shape when dipping into the melts.
  7. In the meantime, make the bows by melting each color of desired candy melts and placing them into the silicone molds. Be sure to wipe the edges so it comes out clean. Refrigerate until set.
  8. Reserve ¼ cup of green candy melts to use for the ribbons. Prepare a double boiler over low heat or use a candy melting pot and melt the remaining dark green candy melts until smooth. Stir often to ensure it heats evenly. Do not heat on too high of a heat otherwise it will seize and thicken.
  9. Dip each truffle one at a time into the melts and remove it using a fork. Tap the fork against the pot or bowl to help remove any excess melts and to thin out the coating. Place the truffle back onto the prepared baking tray. Immediately top with sanding sugar or sprinkles if desired. Repeat with 5-6 more truffles using the same color.
  10. Clean the double boiler and repeat the steps using the red candy melts and then again using the white candy melts. Remember to reserve ¼ cup of each color candy melts to use for making the present ribbons.
  11. Once all of the truffles are coated, place each of the reserved colors of candy melts into their own microwave safe piping bags. Microwave on a low or defrost setting until fully melted. Massage the contents of the bag every minute to ensure it heats evenly.
  12. Snip a small piece of the tips off of the piping bags and carefully drizzle over the presents to make a ribbon. It should be like a cross, over the top. Immediately top with a mini bow.
  13. Allow the coating to fully set before serving. You can place them in the refrigerator to help them harden faster. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use your favorite flavor of Oreos in this recipe! Just make sure to stick with the regular filled cream ones. Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos will have too much cream and can cause the filling to be too wet. This can result in the presents not holding their shape inside and possibly cracking the outer shell.
  • If using one flavor of Oreos and making the full amount, make sure to change the cookie quantity to 44 Oreos and use a full 8 ounce block of cream cheese. Use any color of candy melts you like. Mix and match the colors of the presents and ribbons so they pop.
  • A double boiler or candy melts melting pot can help keep the candy melts at a desirable consistency and temperature when coating the Oreos. Microwaving can cause the candy melts to seize and thicken quicker. If using the microwave, make sure to heat it at a low or defrost setting so it does not overheat and dry out. Stir every 30 seconds to ensure it is heating evenly.
  • The sparkly sanding sugar is optional. You can also get it in other colors if desired. Or you can even opt to use sprinkles instead. Make sure to move quickly and add it on before the coating sets.
  • If you cannot find silicone mini bow molds in the baking section at your local stores, you can purchase the molds online from marketplaces and stores such as Amazon, Joann, and Walmart. You can also opt to draw little bows on yourself.
