Can I Prep the Air Fried Pickles in Advance?

You actually can! The breadcrumb mixture for the pickles can be made days in advance, if not weeks. You can store it in an airtight container and use it whenever needed. In fact, it can also be used as a flavorful coating for any other fried appetizer you’re planning to make.

What Can I Use Instead of Egg?

Egg makes for a splendid coating for the air fried pickles. If you’re trying to keep it vegan, you can use a simple slurry made of all purpose flour and water, such that the batter is thick enough to coat the pickles.

Want to make your air fried pickles even more crispy? Use a bit of rice flour along with the all purpose flour to get that crunch factor.

What Other Seasonings Can I Use?

One of the best things about this recipe is the fact that it is actually pretty versatile- you can use the seasonings of your choice based on your personal preference. A pinch or two of garlic powder really adds an extra layer of flavor and deliciousness to the pickles.

And if you love that kick of spice, some cayenne pepper should be a wonderful addition to the coating mixture.

How Do I Store & Reheat the Leftovers?

Got any leftovers? You can pop them in an airtight container and refrigerate them for upto 2 days. Then, when you plan to have them, just get them out, reheat them in the air fryer and enjoy! You can also choose to reheat them in the microwave, but remember that they won’t retain the same crispiness they originally had.

Tips to Make the Air Fried Pickles

While making the air fried pickles is a pretty straightforward process, you might benefit from keeping these little tips and tricks up your sleeve.

  • Panko breadcrumbs are the perfect coating for the pickles, but if you want to keep it a bit healthier, you can choose to coat the battered pickles in coarsely ground oats as well.
  • You can use both pickled spears and sliced pickles for the recipe- it all depends on what you have at hand. Pickle chips are great because they’re easier to work with, and if you have any leftovers, you can put them to use pretty quickly as well.
  • While using jarred pickles, remember to remove all the excess brine off the surface, and pat them dry. This will ensure that the batter sticks to the pickles, and you get the perfect coating from all sides.
  • It is always a good idea to work in batches when air frying anything, including these pickles. This will ensure that the pickles are all crispy and cooked to perfection.
  • You can use tongs to dip each individual piece of the pickle in the egg or batter and then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture- a good way to keep your hands from getting dirty.
