What is a Breakfast Casserole?

Breakfast Casserole combines eggs, cheese, and a breakfast meat of your choice together in a casserole dish. It is also full of potatoes. It differs from quiche because it uses potatoes instead of pie or pastry crust.

How Do I Store Breakfast Casserole?

Honestly, it’s really unlikely you are going to have leftovers! But, if you do, Breakfast Casserole can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, place your Breakfast Casserole in a casserole dish and cover it with foil. Reheat at 350F for 20-30 minutes. Check to make sure the Breakfast Casserole is hot.

Can I Freeze Breakfast Casserole?

I recommend not freezing Breakfast Casserole as the potatoes naturally break down due to water loss. This might change the texture. However, if absolutely necessary, you can freeze Breakfast Casserole for up to 3 months.

What Can I Use Instead of Potatoes in Breakfast Casserole?

If you want to enjoy Breakfast Casserole without the carb load, use 4 cups of thawed cauliflower rice instead of hash browns.

I know you are going to love this Breakfast Casserole. But before you dive into this recipe, here’s what you need to know:

  • Breakfast casserole is a perfect choice for serving a large crowd. It is especially convenient to serve on Christmas morning when everyone is famished after the gift exchange, but you don’t feel like cooking!
  • Throw any leftover diced sausage into your favorite pasta recipe or in a Sausage Parm Ring Recipe as a special appetizer.
  • Layering salt is a good practice that ensures that each ingredient’s flavor is evenly dispersed. Instead of adding salt to the entire ingredient blend, salt the eggs and hash browns separately before layering them in the slow cooker.

  • Sausage– You can make breakfast casserole with other breakfast meats such as turkey sausage or bacon.
  • Cheese– The sky is the limit for types of cheese to use in a breakfast casserole. Consider using a blend of cheddar, swiss, Colby jack, or mozzarella cheese.
  • Eggs– You can make a healthier Breakfast Casserole by using only egg whites. Remember that it takes 2 egg whites to equal 1 egg with the yoke, so you have to use 2 dozen egg whites in this breakfast casserole recipe.
