Tips and Recipe Notes

  • Use fresh marshmallows. This makes your marshmallows extra sticky, and extra yummy!
  • It may seem like you just dump everything in and stir when you make Rice Krispies Treats, but measuring is really important so you don’t end up with squares that are too sticky or too dry.
  • Press your mixture firmly into the pan. This removes the air in the mixture and compresses the marshmallow, making everything stick together better.
  • When you’re melting your marshmallows, keep the heat down nice and low, and melt slowly so you don’t burn the sugars. This also helps it stick less to your pot.
  • To break up your candy, place them in a Ziploc bag and press with a rolling pin or hammer gently with a meat mallet.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Rice Krispies – You can use a store-brand version instead.
  • Candy melts – Use any color or flavor you want.
  • Mix-ins – The combination in this recipe is delish! But you can use other things too, like chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, sprinkles, or candy.
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs – Any brand will do, but I think Cadbury’s version tastes the best.

Why are my Easter Rice Krispies Treats falling apart?

Picking up your Rice Krispies treat and it’s so gooey it’s falling apart? This is probably a measuring issue. You likely added too much butter or too many marshmallows. The other possible issue is that you didn’t press your mixture hard enough into the pan. If you don’t want to use your hands, you can use a spatula or the flat end of a glass to push down. Add a touch of water to the glass or spatula to keep it from sticking to the cereal mix.

Prep Time 5 minutes

Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • â…› teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
  • 7 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 ½ cups tiny pretzel twists, broken up into large pieces
  • 1 cups Mini Cadbury Eggs, divided

Topping ideas:

  • Mini Cadbury eggs, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup Ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers
  • ½ cup colored wilton candy melts
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Line a baking pan with parchment paper and set it aside. The parchment paper will make it easier to remove the rice krispies treats and transfer to a cutting board.
  2. Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat and stir in the salt.
  3. Separate 1 ½ cups of marshmallows and set it aside to mix in later. Add the rest of the marshmallows to the pot with the melted butter and continue to melt on low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, broken up pretzel pieces, mini cadbury eggs, and the mini marshmallows that were set aside earlier. Fold together until evenly distributed and coated in the melted marshmallow mixture.
  5. Gently spread the Rice Krispies mix into an even layer in the baking pan with a rubber spatula. Do not press it in too hard otherwise it will result in hard to eat treats.
  6. Melt the candy melts separately in microwavable piping bags on a low setting, massaging the bag every 30 seconds, until fully melted.
  7. Drizzle over the prepared Rice Krispies treats and then immediately top with chopped mini Cadbury eggs and sprinkles.
  8. Allow it to cool on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

These rice krispie treats are best eaten the same day but you can store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days. I do not recommend refrigerating as it will harden.
