Corn Chowder is a thick soup made with corn, herbs, seasonings, and mixed vegetables in a cream base of milk or heavy cream.

How Do I Store Left Over Slow Cooker Corn Chowder?

You can store leftover slow cooker Corn Chowder in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Then, reheat on the stove over medium/low heat or in the microwave. If your chowder gets a bit dry during reheating, you can add a touch of cream or milk. However, it’s best to allow the chowder to thaw in the fridge overnight. It’s always best to allow the chowder to completely cool before placing in the fridge.

Before you enjoy this tasty Slow Cooker Corn Chowder, here are a few helpful tips:

  • You can use fresh corn in this Corn Chowder Recipe. Cut the kernels from 1-2 ears of fresh corn, and add to the Crock Pot with the creamed corn and other ingredients.
  • If you do not have a Crock Pot, you can prepare Corn Chowder on the stovetop. Sauté the onion and celery in a heavy-bottom pot until translucent, and then add the carrots. Cook until the carrots are soft. Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Adjust the cooking time if necessary to ensure the carrots and potatoes cook through.
  • The best potato varieties for Crock Pot Corn Chowder are Russet, yellow, or Yukon gold potatoes.

  • Carrots and Celery – If you want to amp up the flavor of Crock Pot Corn Chowder, prepare a mirepoix of celery, onions, and carrots pre-cooked and softened in butter before adding to the crock pot with the other ingredients.
  • Cornstarch Slurry – You can use flour instead of cornstarch as a thickening agent in Corn Chowder. Remember that you will need to use more flour to achieve the desired consistency that would result from a cornstarch slurry.
  • Heavy Cream – If the idea of using heavy cream in Corn Chowder sounds too rich, you can substitute it with milk. Note that milk-based soups will not freeze as well as cream-based soups. So, if freezing Corn Chowder is a priority for you, but you still want to cut some of the calories, opt for half and half instead of milk as a substitute.
