Is there anything better than chocolate? Well, chocolate on top of chocolate most definitely is better than just plain old chocolate. But, shhh don’t tell my waistline I plan to eat several of these chocolate on chocolate cookies!
These Witch Hat cookies turned out so much cuter than I thought they would. Angela helped me bake and then decorated them. We don’t have to discuss how many Hershey’s kisses she and I both ate while we were decorating these cookies do we? I mean what happens in the kitchen stays in the kitchen right?
Halloween is in full swing in our house and Angela is loving it. We’ve baked so many different fall and halloween treats lately! I can’t wait to break all these festive desserts out for our Halloween decorating party this weekend!

These Witch Hat cookies are chocolate cookies that are similar to shortbread. Then we top the chocolate cookies with a dollop of vanilla frosting, dyed orange, a sweet Hershey’s kiss and some festive sprinkles. This makes the best chocolate on chocolate cookie you’ve ever had!
How do I store these Witch Hat Cookies?
Witch Hat cookies are best stored in a sealed container. They can be stored at room temperature for about a week or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Can I freeze this cookies?
Yes, these cookies can be frozen. We recommend storing them in a sealed container for up to three months. To thaw these Witch Hat Cookies, let them sit on your counter for 1-2 hours and they will be good as new!
Witch Hat Cookies
Heavy Cream: Heavy Cream gives your frosting a creamy texture. If you don’t have heavy cream you can use milk in its place.
Food Coloring: Orange food coloring for this recipe. You can use liquid or gel. I think gel gives the best and more vibrant color.
Hershey’s Kisses: Use any type of kisses that you enjoy. Or try the new Vampire Kisses with strawberry center.
Sprinkles: Any festive sprinkles that you have on hand. I like to use jimmie style sprinkles.
How To Make These Yummy Halloween Cookies
Whisk together flour, corn starch, cocoa powder, and salt.
With an electric mixer combine butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla and continue to mix until well blended.
Gradually add in flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
Roll dough into a log with a diameter of about 1 ½ inches. Wrap with parchment or wax paper and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
When ready to bake- Preheat the oven to 350
Carefully slice the dough into ¼- ½ inch slices and place on a baking sheet.
Bake for 8-12 minutes or until set.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes, remove to the cooling rack to cool completely.
To make the frosting
In the bowl of an electric mixer mix butter until light and fluffy. Add in powdered sugar a little at a time, mixing between each addition.
Add in cream vanilla, and orange food coloring and mix thoroughly. Add additional food coloring if needed to achieve desired flavor.
Using a piping bag, pipe a small dot of frosting on the bottom of an unwrapped Hershey’s kiss. Place it in the center of a cookie. Pipe frosting around the edge of the Hershey’s Kiss and sprinkle with sprinkles.
Repeat until all cookies are decorated.
Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

- ¾ Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup Butter (softened)
- 1 Egg
- 2 tsp Vanilla

- 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 1 ½ Tbsp Heavy Cream

- 60- Hershey’s Kisses
