Frequently Asked Questions About Snickers Hot Cocoa Bombs ?
How do Hot Cocoa Bombs Actually Work?
It’s simple, you place a hot cocoa bomb inside a mug and then pour hot milk over them. The chocolate bomb will crack open, releasing the cocoa mix and marshmallows similar to the way a flower blooms.
It’s really satisfying to watch them pop open and the marshmallows expand. The chocolate shell will melt away, and then you stir your mix and marshmallows into your milk leaving you with a very creamy and chocolatey mug of hot cocoa.
Can I use homemade cocoa mix
Absolutely you can use homemade cocoa mix. If you have never made your own hot chocolate mix you can use this simple and easy recipe. Simply mix together 3 cups of dry milk, 2 cups of powdered sugar, and 1 ½ cups of unsweetened cocoa powder.
As a side note I prefer using powdered whole milk when I am making my own cocoa mix. You can use any type that you prefer but I find that whole milk gives your cocoa the best flavor.
What is the Best Chocolate for Making a Chocolate Cocoa Bomb
You can use any type of chocolate that you like. I personally have found that the best chocolate to use is either a high quality chocolate bar or the melting candy.
I love the ease of using the candy melts because they stay so smooth and I don’t need to add anything to them while they are melting. I get the best hot cocoa bombs when I use the candy melts.
You can definitely use more high end chocolates to make your chocolate delights, but you will have to be sure to properly temper your chocolate to break the chocolate crystals without scorching the chocolate.
How Do You Store Hot Cocoa Bombs?
Store your Snickers hot cocoa bombs in a tightly sealed container in a cool dry place for up to two weeks. Be sure to keep your cocoa bombs away from heat sources so that it doesn’t melt or soften.
If you live in a warm climate or keep your house warm, you can store them in the fridge to keep them cool. Want to store your cocoa bombs for longer than two week? Simply wrap them tightly and place them in the freezer for up to two months.

- 2 cups Hot Chocolate Mix
- 2 cups Mini Marshmallows
- 6 Mini Snickers Candies (these are the square shaped bit sized ones)
- 3 Fun sized Snickers (cut into halves)
How To Make
Place chocolate candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in the microwave per the directions on the package, or use your Instant Pot as a double boiler like mentioned earlier.
Place 1 tbsp melted candy melt into one half of a bomb mold and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat with 12 bomb mold halves.
Place the chocolate filled bomb molds into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove molds from the freezer and gently tap the sides of the mold, pressing on one side of the chocolate to make the chocolate slide out of the mold.
Fill 6 of the molds with 1 tbsp hot chocolate mix, and a mini snickers candy bar, and 6-8 mini marshmallows.
Heat a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch.
Press one of the empty chocolate bomb halves open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim of the chocolate cup.
Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of one of the filled cups. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb. Alternatively, you can pipe a little chocolate on the rim’s edge.
Using a piping bag or a fork, place a tsp of the remaining chocolate candy melts on top of the assembled hot cocoa bombs then immediately follow by placing an additional ½ piece of snickers candy bar on this chocolate dab.
Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 2 cups of hot milk over the top. Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy!
