These take no time to make, and all you need is just a little tape, paper, or glue to get you on your holiday DIY journey! I love coming up with creative ideas to share using NJ Holiday Scratch-Off tickets. They’re super fun, and everyone loves receiving them from me. I wanted to push myself into making something even more fun, and that’s why I decided on making a DIY Christmas junk journal.
What’s a DIY Junk Journal?
Well, a Junk Journal is when you take extra scrap pieces of paper, stationery, and other fun notions, and transform them into something fun – a junk journal. It’s like a traditional journal, but a lot more visual fun. There’s so many different things you can do with them, and a lot of people like to make them as a keepsake for memories, photos, and other cool things.
Let’s get started on our journey! You really won’t need a lot to start. For me, I use cardboard for the front and back of the book, cardstock paper, and then I grabbed everything I could find around the house:
- Stickers
- Cotton balls of different colors
- Wrapping paper
- Gift tags
- Different colored tapes
- Envelopes
- Tissue paper
- Ribbons & bows
- Yarn or a colored string
- Glue, tape, and even super glue
Here’s How to Make your Christmas Junk Journal for your Scratch Off Lottery Tickets
Step 1: Take 6 pieces of card stock paper, and fold in half
Step 2: Cut the cardboard pieces to be 6” x 9” in measurement. These make a perfect size for the front and back pieces of your Christmas junk journal.
Step 3: Wrap with your favorite wrapping paper. Make sure both pieces of cardboard are wrapped.
Step 4: Punch holes into the edges along the card stock paper. You don’t want to be ON the edges. Go in about ¼” from the edge. You can add has many holes that you want to in order to create your binding.
Step 5: Add strings into the ends. Tie off each hole and snip off extras. I used this yarn string that I found at the Dollar Tree store. It’s actually a fabric!
Step 6: Glue on front and back of book covers to paper. I glued them onto the direct end of the paper holes.
Step 7: Now you’re ready to have fun with all your pages by decorating and adorning with all of your notions! Every page I created was so much fun. I designed each page to be able to hold a lottery ticket or 3. This way, each page is a surprise!
When I was done, I tied it off with a bow to help keep it slightly closed and add a little extra cheer. The pages are very dimensional and have a lot of textures!
