Keto Mashed Cauliflower
Keto Mashed Cauliflower with Cream Cheese is a luxurious and creamy alternative to traditional mashed potatoes for those wanting to reduce their daily carb intake or following a ketogenic diet!
Do you have to be on a Keto diet to enjoy this deliciousness? Nope! It has so much yummy flavors!
Serve your cauliflower mash as a side to roasted or grilled meats, or add it to casseroles and breakfast meals such as bangers and cauliflower mash.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT KETO MASHED CAULIFLOWER WITH CREAM CHEESE
Cauliflower is an extremely popular vegetable for those following a low-carb or ketogenic diet, and for good reason! This magical vegetable is filling, nutritious, and hardly adds any significant amount of carbs to your daily tracking.
It can be enjoyed as a side dish or added to other ingredients to complete a recipe.
HOW SHOULD I STORE MASHED CAULIFLOWER?
Mashed cauliflower can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or you can freeze it for up to 3 months.
HOW DO I REHEAT KETO MASHED CAULIFLOWER WITH CREAM CHEESE?
Leftover cauliflower mash can be reheated on the stovetop over low heat. Add a splash of milk or cream while stirring to loosen the mixture.
IS MASHED CAULIFLOWER HEALTHIER THAN REGULAR MASHED POTATOES?
This mashed cauliflower is a healthier option if you try reducing carbs in your diet, especially when following a ketogenic diet where your daily carb count needs to be very low.
Other than that, I wouldn’t say that cauliflower mash is healthier than regular mashed potatoes. Both vegetables have their respective health benefits and nutritional value.
WHAT’S ADDED TO CAULIFLOWER MASH TO THICKEN IT?
The cream cheese added to the cooked cauliflower mash mixture does an excellent job of thickening the cauliflower mash! It will also become a bit richer when you add in the other asiago cheese.
It’ll give it a creamy and velvety texture that you will just love!
DOES CAULIFLOWER MASH TASTE LIKE REGULAR MASHED POTATOES?
I’d be misleading you if I said that you taste any difference between the two. That said, cauliflower mash is incredibly creamy thanks to the cream cheese and butter, much like traditional mash.
Cauliflower has a very earthy, nutty flavor. It’s definitely a more complex flavor than starchy potatoes.
HOW CAN I USE LEFTOVER CAULIFLOWER MASH?
Leftover keto cauliflower mash can be used in place of mashed potato in recipes such as shepherd’s pie, or other casserole dishes. You can also use leftover cauliflower mash as an ingredient in recipes such as potato fritters.
TIPS FOR MAKING KETO MASHED CAULIFLOWER WITH CREAM CHEESE
- Roasted garlic can be used in this recipe instead of garlic powder. To make roasted garlic, you’ll need to prepare the garlic head by splitting it open to expose the individual cloves. Drizzle olive oil over the cloves and season with salt and pepper before wrapping them in aluminum foil and baking for 30 minutes at 400F. Once baked, you’ll be able to easily pop the softened cloves out of the bulb.
- Feel free to mash your cauliflower to the consistency you desire. Both smooth or chunky cauliflower mash is delicious!
- All ovens heat differently, so keep a close watch when heating the cheese topping. The last thing you want is a burnt cheese topping!
I’ve kept the seasoning in this keto mashed cauliflower quite simple, but you can add other spices such as paprika or cayenne pepper for a slight kick of heat!

- Spray down a square casserole dish with non-stick spray. Add cauliflower mixture, and spread evenly. Top with asiago cheese. Place in oven until golden brown and bubbly.
- Once removed, allow 5 minutes to cool and set. Top with favorite garnishes of green onions, crumbled bacon, or more!
Notes
Instead of garlic powder you can use roasted garlic!
To Make Roasted Garlic: slice the head down the middle exposing the cloves, drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, wrap in foil and bake for 30 minutes at 400. The cloves will soften enough to squeeze out of the bulb. The best part is this reheats well. Feel free to bake it the day before and then just microwave to reheat.
