Recall Expansion: Walmart and Aldi Frozen Pizzas Added to Growing Salmonella Alert
What began as a targeted alert for Aldi breakfast pizzas has rapidly expanded into a wider recall involving one of the nation's largest retailers. According to an updated report from People and the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), several varieties of frozen pizzas sold at Walmart are now included in the health alert due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The root cause remains a contaminated dry milk powder used in the cheese and sauce components of various meat and poultry products.
Newly Added Recalled Products at Walmart
The May 1st update significantly increases the list of affected items. If you have Great Value brand pizzas in your freezer, check for these specific varieties:
- Great Value Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch (Best Buy: Feb. 11 – March 8, 2026)
- Great Value Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch (Best Buy: Feb. 11 – March 8, 2026)
- Great Value Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch (Large size) (Best Buy: April 13, 2026)
Other Impacted Brands
In addition to the previously reported Mama Cozzi’s breakfast pizzas at Aldi, the following items are now under recall:
- Culinary Circle Ultra Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch: (Best Buy: Feb. 19, 2026).
- Pork King Sour Cream & Onion Pork Rinds: Both standard and party sizes (Best Buy: June – August 2026).
Essential Health Information
While there have been no confirmed reports of illness as of May 2, the FSIS is taking a “better safe than sorry” approach because Salmonella can survive the freezing process.
- The Symptoms: Diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever typically appear within 6 hours to 6 days of consumption.
- The Risk: Most healthy adults recover in 4 to 7 days, but the FSIS warns that the elderly, children, and those with compromised immune systems are at risk for more severe complications.
Action Plan for Shoppers
The FSIS is concerned that many of these products are currently sitting in consumers' freezers.
- Search Your Freezer: Look for any “Chicken Bacon Ranch” varieties from Great Value or Culinary Circle, as well as the Mama Cozzi’s breakfast pizzas.
- Do Not Consume: Even if the pizza looks normal or is cooked at high heat, the USDA urges you to throw it away or return it to the store.
- Return for Refund: Both Walmart and Aldi will provide full refunds for any of the affected products brought back to the service desk.
