Iffy's Hot Chicken, a red-hot Nashville-style chicken restaurant that built a devoted following across New Jersey, is planting its first-ever Pennsylvania flag right here in Bristol Township. Signs have already gone up at the location, and the buzz is real.

Iffy's Hot Chicken started in Burlington, New Jersey, and has built its name around hand-breaded, fresh-never-frozen chicken tenders and wings, fried to order and tossed in bold spice blends ranging from mild warmth to serious heat. Why Bristol Township?

The KFC building at Durham Road and Veterans Highway has been sitting vacant for nearly a decade since the chain closed its Bristol Township location. It's a busy intersection, high visibility, and exactly the kind of spot a fast-growing brand wants for its first out-of-state location.

Bristol Township Council President Craig Bowen has already gone on record saying he's excited about the opening — “The chicken's phenomenal,” he said — and noted that new businesses generate mercantile tax revenue that helps fund township operations without raising taxes on homeowners.

Not everyone on social media has been thrilled — some residents expressed concerns when the news broke — but Bowen pushed back, pointing out that attracting business benefits the whole community.

Part of a Bigger Wave

Iffy's arrival isn't happening in a vacuum. Lower Bucks County is in the middle of a chicken restaurant boom, and Iffy's opening follows the recent announcement that Zaxby's is also opening its first Pennsylvania location nearby in Tullytown. Hot chicken, Nashville-style wings, and loaded fries are clearly what people around here want right now — and Bristol Township is becoming ground zero for it.

Owner Iffy Shah told NJ.com that between 25 and 30 franchisees were already lined up to open new Iffy's locations, so this Bristol Township spot is likely just the first of many in the region.

An official opening date hasn't been announced yet. But the signs are up, the building is being prepared, and based on how fast Iffy's has moved in New Jersey and New York, it likely won't be long.
