Ingredients

  • 18.71 ounce Family size package Double Stuf Oreos 36 cookies
  • 2 - 10 ounce bags Ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers
  • 12 ounce bag Wilton red candy melts
  • 12 ounce bag Wilton royal blue candy melts
  • White nonpareils
  • Red white, and blue nonpareils

Instructions

  1. Line baking trays with parchment paper and set aside.
To make the blue Oreos with white nonpareils:
  1. Using a double boiler on low heat, melt ¾ of the package of royal blue melting wafers, stirring occasionally until smooth. You can alternatively melt the wafers in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring each interval until smooth.
  2. Place an Oreo cookie on a fork and dip it fully into the blue melts. Lift it out with the fork and tap to remove the excess coating. Place the cookie on the prepared baking tray and immediately top with white nonpareils. Repeat with 8-10 more Oreo cookies and then place the tray of Oreos in the refrigerator for the coating to set.
To make the red Oreos with white stripes:
  1. Using a double boiler on low heat, melt ¾ of the package of red melting wafers, stirring occasionally until smooth. You can alternatively melt the wafers in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring each interval until smooth.
  2. Place an Oreo cookie on a fork and dip it fully into the red melts. Lift it out with the fork and tap to remove the excess coating. Place the cookie on the prepared baking. Repeat with 8-10 more cookies and make sure to space them out 1-2 inches apart when placing them on the tray.
  3. In a small piping bag, melt about ¼ cup of white melting wafers on a low setting in the microwave. Massage the bag every 30 seconds to ensure it heats evenly.
  4. Snip a small piece of the tip and then drizzle lines over the red coated Oreos.
  5. Place the tray of Oreos in the refrigerator for the coating to set.
To make the white Oreos with red, white, and blue nonpareils:
  1. Using a double boiler on low heat, melt 1 package of the white melting wafers, stirring occasionally until smooth. You can alternatively melt the wafers in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring each interval until smooth.
  2. Place an Oreo cookie on a fork and dip it fully into the white melts. Lift it out with the fork and tap to remove the excess coating. Place the cookie on the prepared baking tray and immediately top with the red, white, and blue nonpareils. Repeat with 8-10 more Oreo cookies and then place the tray of Oreos in the refrigerator for the coating to set.
To make the white Oreos with red and blue drizzle:
  1. Using a double boiler on low heat, melt 1 package of the white melting wafers, stirring occasionally until smooth. You can alternatively melt the wafers in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments, stirring each interval until smooth.

Notes

Whether using the double boiler or microwave method, make sure to melt the wafers over a low heat to avoid it from seizing and becoming thick. Never add liquid to candy melts. For Wilton brand candy melts, you can add 1-2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening per 12 ounce bag of melts.
You can use any flavor of Oreos you desire, even Golden Oreos. You can also use regular, Double Stuf, or Mega Stuf varieties. This recipe uses Double Stuf.
