What is Whipped Feta?
Whipped feta is a dip or spread made from feta cheese and Greek yogurt. It’s blended together and seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and other spices, as desired. Whipped feta is typically paired with pita or other chips, fruits, and fresh vegetables and can also be spread on bread.
How Do I Serve Whipped Feta?
Whipped feta is delicious served fresh, and leftovers will have a bolder, saltier taste. You’ll want to serve your whipped feta at room temperature. You can serve it in a small bowl alongside accompaniments like pita chips, crostinis, crackers, fresh bread, vegetables like peppers and celery, and fresh fruits like apples and pears. Whipped feta can be topped with roasted red peppers, olives, garlic, salt and pepper, or fresh herbs like parsley and oregano.
How Do I Store Whipped Feta?
Whipped feta stores well in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. The flavors of the dip will get stronger as it sits. When you want to eat your leftovers, allow them 30 minutes to come to room temperature before serving.
Can I Freeze Whipped Feta Cheese?
Yes, you can store your whipped feta in the freezer for up to 3 months. Keep in mind, however, that your frozen dip will lose some of its texture. It may be chunkier once it’s thawed and might not have the same fresh flavor as it did before.
What Can I Do With Whipped Feta?
Whipped feta is traditionally served as a dip, but it can also be used as a spread or even a salad dressing. It’s delicious and versatile. Serve it on an appetizer table or charcuterie board. Spread it on naan or flatbread as a pizza sauce. Pour it over a broccoli salad. The salty, smooth, flavorful dip goes well with just about anything.
Tips for Making Whipped Feta
- Use a food processor or high-powered blender. You need your machine to break up the feta cheese completely, so it fully immerses with the yogurt.
- If you find your dip isn’t smooth enough or remains too thick, drizzle a bit of olive oil slowly into the food processor while it’s blending until you’ve reached your desired consistency.
- Always serve this recipe at room temperature, or it will be too thick to dip or spread.

Notes
- Buy good-quality Greek feta in brine. Dry or pre-crumbled feta cheese won’t work well for this recipe.
- You can easily roast your own vegetables or garlic to top this recipe. Just toss your seasoned veggies with a bit of olive oil and place in the oven at 425 F for 20 minutes. Season as desired.
- The toppers we love the most include roasted red peppers, zucchini, and tomatoes. For seasonings, you can also use basil and roasted garlic, or go for something sweeter with cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey.
Substitutions
- Feta Cheese – You can use goat’s milk, sheep’s milk, or cow’s milk feta for this recipe, as long as it’s sold in the brine.
- Greek Yogurt – You can give your dip a different flavor by using cream cheese instead of greek yogurt. You may want to blend your cream cheese with some milk to give it a similar consistency as yogurt before adding in your feta.

- 2 cloves Garlic (see note)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
