🔪 HOW TO MAKE VALENTINE’S WHOOPIE PIES
These vibrant and fun Valentine’s whoopie pies are easy to make with maximum visual appeal! Follow these simple step-by-step instructions and helpful cooking tips for best results.
Preparations
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Beat the butter and sugar, followed by the vanilla extract and eggs. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt, and beat again until the dough is smooth.
Step 2
Divide the dough into three separate bowls and add one color to each. Mix to combine. Check the recommended amount of food coloring gel to be used on the packaging of the product. For deeper shades of color, add more.
Step 3
Roll 1 1/2-inch dough balls with your hands and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4
Spray the flat-bottom of a drinking glass with cooking spray and flatten each dough ball until it’s about 1/4-1/2-inch thick. Bake the whoopie pies for 8 minutes, or until lightly browned, and then transfer them to a cooling rack.
Step 5
While the whoopie pies cool, cream the butter with powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Add vanilla extract and milk, and beat again. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar, as desired.
Step 6
Assemble the Valentine’s whoopie pies by filling two cookies with buttercream frosting. Roll each whoopie pie in the bowl of sprinkles to coat the edges, and enjoy!
💭 COOKING TIPS
- Make sure that the individual cookies are completely cool before assembling the whoopie pies, otherwise the frosting will become a runny mess!
- Sifting the powdered sugar will help to prevent any lumps in the buttercream frosting.
- Avoid overcrowding the baking sheet when baking the cookies. There should be about an inch of space between each cookie to accommodate normal spreading while baking.
- Be gentle when filling the cookies with the frosting as the cookies could break apart under too much pressure. Spread the frosting between the cookies, pressing the cookies together gently.
