Drinking a cup of tea is one of the first things that most people do when they’re feeling sick or wanting a cup of comfort. There are all different types of teas out there – everything from green tea to a chamomile, and we already know that each different type of to helps to do various things. Yes, I’m a full-time coffee drinker, but I know how brew a delicious cup of tea to go with my mood. However, I didn’t fully understand the full capability of tea until I was working at a fine dining restaurant in Princeton, NJ. I’m not going to lie, I was a little hung over and feeling like crud. I was called into work to help cover a double, yes…a double, but me being me completely said yes because they needed my help.

Just a few months ago before I was called into that double shift, there was a Holistic shop that had opened up across the street from us. Before I started my super long shift, I went and found someone to talk with, and if they could help me in any way possible. The gentleman smiled at me, and nodded with a bigger smile, and directed towards this powered ginseng root tea. I went to work with the goods in my hand, and proceeded with my cup of tea. Within 20 minutes, I felt like a completely new person! I was happy, and I didn’t feel all icky anymore. This is like the world’s best miracle holistic cut of tea thingy that I have ever had…period. I made my co-workers and friends to try it out. Within 20 minutes, boom…just a sense of happiness. This, my friends, is when I came across something called adaptogens. Adapto – what? Yes…adaptogens. It’s a real word that I have just recently been educated upon. You see, adaptogens are a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress and to exert a normalizing effect upon bodily processes. A well-known example is ginseng. I learned more about what adaptogens really are, and explored more about the true healing power of tea with Rachel, one of the co-founders of Teamotions Tea. What started off as me interviewing this amazing person, turned into more of an deep rooted discussion – which I totally enjoyed. Rachel’s enthusiasm for her line of teas surpasses any type joy that I could feel through our telephone conversation. With all of this in mind, I’m going to share our discussion.

To put yourself in the right mindset before our discussion, it’s really important to know the real background story of Rachel, and why she really got so involved into Teamotions Tea…and you can read all about it her story. It definitely broke my heart when I first read her biography.

ME: Hi Rachel! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me. It’s such a great pleasure!

Rachel: It’s totally my pleasure, and I’m happy to have set the time aside.

ME: (Before I started talking with her, I already had my notes set aside of what I wanted to ask, and hopefully had questions that just weren’t too generic. However, I honestly didn’t want to talk about the concept of how she lost her two daughters to give the lead in questions. So I led in my special needs sister, Angela). I can not begin to tell you enough on how much I believe in the healing power of tea. We don’t believe in filling her up with a ton of different harmful chemicals from traditional medicine. She’s been on traditional medicine her whole life and was just a complete zombie.

Rachel: That’s one of the most amazing things to hear! There is such healing power, mentally and physiologically, of tea and adaptogens on the human body.

ME: I’m sorry…what word did you just use? I’m totally trying not to sound rude,  I’ve just not ever heard that word used before.

Rachel: LOL! It’s okay! Not a lot of people actually know what they’re called, but they know what they are and somewhat of what they do. These healing herbs are called adaptogens. Adaptogens help promote emotional well-being while aiding to naturally balance your energy.

ME: Okay! Now I’ve got it! So, when you’re blending teas with adaptogens, what kind of effect do you want to have as an end result?

Rachel: First, I’m look for complimentary herbs to coincide with the adaptogens. Adaptogens have their own flavor profiles, so I’m looking to find a harmonious blend for them all to work together. We are one of the first tea companies that have ever provided a fair trade & organic stamp on our teas, and we are super proud of that as it’s something that I stand for and behind. We get the best quality for our teas this way, and quality is so very important to me. I am constantly researching adaptogens, and have actually bring them tot he mainstream market a little over 5 years ago.

ME: If you could choose your most favorite adaptogen, what would you choose and why?

Rachel: That’s so super easy for me – Jiao Gulan (a plant root from China). It’s known as the immortality herb over there. It helps support strength, recovery, and stamina. It’s great for post workouts, a calming energy, great for moving from different time zones, and one of the best for stress support.

ME: What’s a great tea that you would recommend for someone to enjoy from your tea selections that you offer?

Rachel: I would totally recommend Discover Joy. It has lemon grass, oat straw, ginger, green tea, and oolong tea. Discover Joy is an immune booster. It’s truly a great step in helping people take care of their selfs on an emotional level. The motto of this tea is “Your heart matters…leave no heart behind.” Another great one is Enjoy Rest. It has ashwagandha root & chamomile. It’s great kids because it’s so soothing and relaxing. The flavor profile is super reminiscent of grandma’s apple pie with honey and tea.
