{"id":394,"date":"2011-07-12T22:11:48","date_gmt":"2011-07-12T22:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foodnservice.com\/staging\/?p=394"},"modified":"2023-04-19T14:49:27","modified_gmt":"2023-04-19T19:49:27","slug":"18-tips-to-be-a-better-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foodnservice.com\/staging\/18-tips-to-be-a-better-server\/","title":{"rendered":"18 Tips To Be A Better Server"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">There's a huge difference in being a restaurant server who's just going through the motions of a shift and a restaurant server who owns and commands their entire shift from beginning of the shift to the end of the shift. Being a server is not an easy job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never serve a cold salad on a hot plate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always check your glassware for cracks, water stains and dried food before serving beverages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No eating or drinking in the front of the house during operating hours. &nbsp;You are not a camel or a cow chewing cud.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No gum chewing or smoking EVER, unless given permission by manager on&nbsp;duty and you're not serving guests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never attempt to adjust the lights or thermostats in the Restaurant. If there is a&nbsp;problem, get a manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sales station can only be opened or closed by a manager. NO EXCEPTIONS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve food from customer's left.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve beverage from customer's right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear everything from customer's right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve women and children first, then men.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you serve a course, be sure to crumb the table appropriately. There should&nbsp;only be utensils (on the table) that correlate to the guest\u2019s course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whenever serving a course, position the plate so that the protein on the plate is&nbsp;closest to the customer (unless other wise noted, always at 6 o\u2019clock position)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove soiled china and silver after each course. &nbsp;Be sure to Mise en place per course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Top off with offer of additional beverages whenever anyone is getting low.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring condiments to the table before they are needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer fresh ground pepper with all salads and entrees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never walk away from a table without acknowledging guest requests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never assume that the change is your tip!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always be polite and cordial! &nbsp;Thank the guest before they leave and wish them a happy return!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Be Sure to read my
