It\u2019s enjoyed as a main dish and can be paired with chicken, beef, fish, goat, or eggs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHAT TYPE OF RICE IS BEST FOR MAKING JOLLOF?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve used basmati rice for this recipe since the classic version calls for long-grain rice. Another long-grain rice that would work well is Jasmine rice.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Nigeria, Jollof is served with a salad that closely resembles coleslaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHAT ARE THE OTHER NAMES FOR THIS RICE DISH?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jollof rice is known by different names depending on the region. You can halve the recipe if desired.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may need to add more stock when cooking with long-grain rice that is thicker than basmati or Jasmine rice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jollof rice should not be creamy like risotto. To help prevent a creamy texture, it\u2019s important that you don\u2019t continually stir the rice while it cooks. Allow it to cook and only stir occasionally.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rice must cook on very low heat during the cooking time to allow it to cook through, absorb the flavors, and not burn on the bottom of the pot. It\u2019s fine if there is slight browning on the bottom of the pot; in fact, it\u2019s quite delicious!&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The habanero pepper adds a lovely red color to this dish. You could also use other types of red pepper, such as Red shepherd peppers which are sweet, or red bell peppers.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019ve added frozen mixed vegetables to this rice but not all versions of Jollof rice include these vegetables.
