Not All Razors Are Created Equal

I probably have one of the most sensitive skin that anyone can have. When I first started shaving in my post-pubescent life, it was such a horrible experience. No matter what type of razor that I tried to use or how careful I would try to be, my skin always broke up in bumps and I would get razor burn like crazy. In fact, I would always submerse my face into a bathroom skink full of ice cold water to help cool my skin off and to help stop any bleeding that was happening. It was so embarrassing when I had to go to school with a scraped up face.

Thankfully, the evolution in the quantity of blades started happening. The amount of blades in the razors started increasing from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. The 3 blade razors came out when I was in college. After a ton of consideration, I started using Schick’s® 3 blade razor meant for sensitive skin. Above any that I tried at the time, it seemed to have done a pretty great job, and I was pretty happy at the time.

Fast forward to 5 years ago when the 5 blade razors hit the market. They scared the bejeezus out of me. The razors looked like they were ready to jump on my face and peel the layers of my skin off. I wanted to try them, but after looking at the space between the blades, I already knew that I would skin snags and wind up crying in pain, and my face would wind up back in that bathroom sink full of ice cold water to help cool my face off from all of the irritations.

Something AMAZING happened! Schick developed their new line of Schick Hydro® 5 Razors. Honestly, it was the word “Hyrdo®” that really grabbed my attention in wanting to learn more. So, while I was shopping at Giant Eagle, I picked up a Razor pack and started reading everything about it on the box. Yes, I’m that guy…the one that actually reads the packing details on the package. My skin is way too important to not read it.

The Schick Hydro® 5 boasts:

  • 80% more lubricant surface for gel extrusion with new recessed micro-slits.
  • Improved Safety – reduced blade spans minimize skin bulge between blades. Hydro gel now moisturizes your skin for up to 2 hours after your shave.
  • Improved Comfort – hydrating gel reservoir reduces friction by 40% vs. lube strips. New larger guard bar design for increased skin stretch.
  • Designed like no other razor to protect from irritation.

See those amazing gel strips?

Look! The top of the head pivots back for a more exact shave for your sideburns!

So, It was time to see if the “proof was in the pudding.” It was time for me to get down to business and shaving this beautiful face of my mine.

I nervously grabbed the razor in the shower – because that’s where I always shave, and started into my face with the Schick Hydro® 5 razor. Upon the first stroke, I was already in love. The razor truly glided across my skin. It was completely surreal, as I’m used to feeling the blades of the skin against my face. The reduced blade span of the razor truly does help! The larger lubricant surface is just perfect. It was the combination of these two that truly made my skin feel amazing while shaving, in my own opinion. Yes, the the guard bar and lube strips totally aided, too. This razor definitely has me loving it more than anything else I’ve ever used on my face.

The end results? Holy cow…I wish you could touch my super smooth silky face with no razor bumps AT ALL. What’s even better than that? I don’t have to pile on some lotion on my skin after I get out of the shower and shaved my face. So, if you have ever been afraid or just still curious about using the Schick Hydro® 5 razor, don’t be! Just buy it while you’re at Giant Eagle, and start shaving. Your face will thank you, and me!

Here’s the razor in action!

Yes…this is my dirty hat wearing mug before shaving. Look at all that scruff! I wanted to test it out with not shaving for a few days (okay..maybe 4).

I’m all lathered up! Now it’s time to get down to the business of shaving.

Even with all of that facial hair, the razor isn’t snagging my skin at all!

Now it’s time to flip the head back, and even up my sideburn.

I love that I don’t have to worry about that extra space at the top of the blade in making sure that I’m getting the exact spot that I want to shave from my sideburns.

Look at my baby smooth face. Not one bump. Not one area of skin irritation. That gel strip on the razor is pretty amazing in leaving my face super smooth. It’s kinda crazy!
