Want to give your family a surprise? Serve Pomegranate jam in place of cranberry sauce for the holidays. It’s a delicious substitute, and they’ll definitely want more while they ask for your recipe!
Making this jam recipe turned out to be my jam, pun intended! Have you tried my apple jam, yet? Pomegranate jam might sound unusual, but it is bursting with a sweet flavor. This recipe however is the easiest recipe that I’ve ever made in my pressure cooker. The best part of making this jam in that you only need the juice from the pomegranate which means that you get to eat the seeds!
Despite popular opinion pomegranate seeds are in fact edible. Did you know that pomegranate seeds are called arils? Arils are juicy, red and teardrop shaped morsels that are filled with a white seed in the middle.
I don’t know about you but canning jam seems like such a chore. Maybe I just don’t have the patience as I love quick things and don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen. However, there is no need to worry about canning this pomegranate jam recipe, as this makes a 1 1/4 cup serving, and can fit easily into a 10-12oz jar. No need to worry about a huge batch to store.
Frequently Asked Questions About Instant Pot Pomegranate Jam
How do I choose a ripe Pomegranate?
To find a delicious and ripe pomegranate, look for one with a more square shape. This means you need to look for sides that are flattened instead of rounded. Also, lightly squeeze the pomegranate to test for soft areas. You do not want a pomegranate with a soft or squishy area as that tends to be a bruise or mushy part.
When you are squeezing your pomegranate look for a firm inside. Not rock hard, but firm with a slight give. I prefer to look for a dark red color, and a pomegranate that feels heavy. You want a juicy pomegranate which is why you want to feel for weight as well.
Can I use bottled juice instead of fresh Pomegranate juice
Absolutely, you can use bottled juice. I will be honest with you though and tell you I personally think the bottled juice just does not pack the same flavor punch as fresh juice does. Each pomegranate contains about ½ cup of juice inside.
If you have a juicer on hand you could juice your pomegranate in your juicer to make your life a little easier but squeezing them works great even if you don’t have a juicer on hand. If you use juice, be sure to use PonWonderful!
How long should I store my Instant Pot Pomegranate Jam?
You can store your Instant Pot Pomegranate Jam in the fridge inside the jar for about 3 months. But let’s just be honest there’s no way that it will ever last that long in my house at least.
I doubt we even keep it for a week because we love it so much. You could also freeze this jam in a freezer safe jar or freezer bag for up to 6 months. Be sure to thaw in the fridge after freezing.
