Companies are coming out with amazing products every day to enhance your kitchen life. Well, Calphalon just too took this to a whole new different level! They created a self sharpening cutlery set! Once I was asked to review this product, did you really think that I would say no? Uhm…of course not! As you know, I have over 20 years of restaurant experience…so I know the true importance of always having a sharp knife for doing kitchen prep work. The chef’s in my kitchen would get newly sharpened knives every week on Thursday. They would give the “knife guy” (that we so eloquently called him) the dull knives, and replace them with our newly sharpened ones. The biggest kicker is the cost! It costs about $25 – $30 a week to have 8 – 10 knives sharpened. That money adds up! Yes, they make knife sharpening products, but that means you would have to take the time out of your day to actually sharpen your knives. As a busy “dad” running a home of 7 people (including myself), I know that I certainly don’t have the time for that.
Calphalon comes in and steps the game up by giving a knife storage cube that actually sharpens the knives when you pull them out or put them back in! Ingenuity at its finest. Why hasn’t a company thought of this sooner? Calphalon has certainly designed something super beautiful that’s going to make my life efficient and easier! That makes me a super happy man.
If you look inside the knife set, you can actually see where the sharpeners are. I took all of the knives out see you can see it more easily.
Then, in putting the knives back in…BAM…sharpened. Pull them out…BAM…sharpened! Having some seriously sharpened knives is going to make meal time planning so much more facilitative, especially dinner. Tonight, I am making an oven roasted vegetable recipe with root vegetables and brussels sprouts.
I used 3 different types of potatoes for my oven roasted root vegetables (Purple, Red, and Fingerling). I used the the utility knife, and it sliced through my potatoes like it was butter. No struggle. No extra weight or push had to be added to them! So, be careful and make sure you know your knife safety when cutting veggies!

Now that you’ve watched the video, here’s what my recipe wound up looking like! Super fresh herbs of rosemary, basil, thyme, sea salt, cracked pepper, and EVOO makes this super delicious! Bake at 375 for 1 hour, and you’re good to go! It turned amazing and super delicious! This something that I can eat all by itself, and not have a need for any type of protein at all. I’m totally not a vegetarian, but I can eat this every single day. If you want to improve your knife skills, then before to visit the Knife Skills site that has a ton of videos for you to learn from!
