Whether you usually like broccoli or not, I think you’re going to enjoy this Air Fryer Broccolini recipe. Seasoned, air fryer broccoli is SO yummy, plus it’s low-carb too; perfect if you’re following a keto diet or just want an easy side dish that contains plenty of vitamins and nutrients.
One of the best parts of this recipe? This is a very quick broccolini recipe that’s ready in 10 minutes. You just toss your fresh broccolini with oil, lemon, some garlic (of course!) and a bit of salt and pepper.
Toss the seasoned broccolini in your air fryer basket and 5 minutes later, you’ve got perfectly tender-crisp vegetables that are full of flavor without all the extra fat!
Air fryer broccolini goes well with almost any protein. Try it with chicken, fish, or beef.
What is Broccolini?
Broccolini is a green vegetable from the cruciferous family, similar in many ways to broccoli. Sometimes called ‘baby broccoli,’ it’s commonly used in Asian cuisine and is also often served in pasta dishes. Broccolini is more difficult to find than broccoli but is often sold at Asian grocery stores or food markets like Whole Foods.
Broccolini vs Broccoli
Broccolini resembles broccoli with similar florets, but it has longer, thinner stalks. Broccolini is sweeter and more tender than traditional broccoli. Its florets also tend to be smaller. While you need to remove much of the stalk and leaves when eating broccoli, broccolini’s stalks and leaves can be left intact, allowing you to use more of the plant.
Broccoli Rabe vs Broccolini
While broccoli rabe and broccolini sound like they have a lot in common, they are quite different. Broccoli rabe has thicker stalks, bigger leaves and fewer florets than broccolini. Also, the taste is completely different from broccolini or broccoli. Broccoli rabe is more closely related to the turnip family and tends to be more bitter in flavor, while broccolini cooks up tender and sweet.
How Do I Store Air Fryer Broccolini?
Leftover broccolini can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week. Keep in mind, it’s best served fresh and will likely become soggier when reheated. It’s possible to freeze broccolini and store in the freezer for a few weeks time, but the tender, thin stalks may lose their texture.
Can I Make Air Fryer Broccolini in the Oven?
Yes, you can! While air fryer broccolini will have a crispier texture, your oven-baked broccolini may have a consistency that’s more tender, but both will be tasty. To use the oven for this recipe, just lay your seasoned broccolini on a sheet pan in a single layer and bake for 15-20 minutes at 375 degrees.
