Spicy Beef Entree

Spicy Beef

Serves : 4       Cook time: 5-7 minutes

What you need:

8oz steak tenderloin

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 tsp powdered star anise

1 tbsp dark soy sauce

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 bunch scallions, halved lengthways

1 tbsp dark soy sauce

1 tbsp dry sherry

¼ tsp chili sauce (You can leave this out for a milder dish)

2/3 cup water

2 tsp cornstarch

  1. Cut the steak into thin strips and place in a shallow dish.
  2. Mix together the garlic, star anise, and 1 of the dark soy saucein a bowl and pour over the steak strips. Cover and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour. ( The longer the better)
  3. Heat the oil in a preheated wok. Reduce the heat, add the halved scallions and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Remove from the wok and set to the side.
  4. Add the beef to the wok, together with the marinade, and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. Return the scallions to the wok and add the additional soy sauce, sherry, chili sauce, and 2/3 of the water.
  5. Blend the cornstarch to a paste with the remaining water and stir into the wok. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sauce thickens and clears.
  6. Transfer to a warm serving dish and top with scallion tassels and some sesame seeds (UNLESS ALLERGIC) and serve immediately.
