Spicy Beef
Serves : 4 Cook time: 5-7 minutes
What you need:
8oz steak tenderloin
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 tsp powdered star anise
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 bunch scallions, halved lengthways
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp dry sherry
¼ tsp chili sauce (You can leave this out for a milder dish)
2/3 cup water
2 tsp cornstarch
Directions:
- Cut the steak into thin strips and place in a shallow dish.
- Mix together the garlic, star anise, and 1 of the dark soy saucein a bowl and pour over the steak strips. Cover and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour. ( The longer the better)
- Heat the oil in a preheated wok. Reduce the heat, add the halved scallions and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Remove from the wok and set to the side.
- Add the beef to the wok, together with the marinade, and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. Return the scallions to the wok and add the additional soy sauce, sherry, chili sauce, and 2/3 of the water.
- Blend the cornstarch to a paste with the remaining water and stir into the wok. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sauce thickens and clears.
- Transfer to a warm serving dish and top with scallion tassels and some sesame seeds (UNLESS ALLERGIC) and serve immediately.
